While preparing English tracing practice for a child, we tried an existing worksheet generator and found that its letterforms did not match the models in the current textbook. Some forms were also different from the ones we had learned growing up.
We wanted to build an English practice generator in Xiguo Companion, so we first found a typeface that looked fairly close and thought a few letter changes would be enough. Comparing the lowercase y revealed a mismatch. Looking more closely also revealed differences in curves, stroke endings and proportions.
So we decided to draw the letterforms ourselves. Using the handwriting structures and stroke-order requirements shown in the textbook as a reference, we independently drew and built an English handwriting typeface that can be installed and used in printable materials. During that work, we found that the positions of the letters on four-line guides also needed repeated adjustment. Its Chinese name is 羲果英语书写体, or 羲果体 for short, produced by 970 LAB.
For ready-to-print practice, download the two-page A4 alphabet tracing PDF linked here. Each page has 13 rows, with one model pair, two tracing pairs and space to write independently. No font installation is needed. Get the font installer through the Xiguo Companion home for free after registration and sign-in. Once installed, you can select 羲果英语书写体 in Word or another application that supports font selection and type English to make your own word and sentence exercises.
We also plan to offer a PDF upload and font-conversion service through Xiguo Companion for registered users, initially free and paid later. This feature is still being planned and is not available yet. Supported PDF types will be explained when the service launches.
The alphabet tracing PDF is available free on 970lab.com without signing in. The Xiguo Companion home offers free alphabet worksheets, an alphabet practice PDF and multiplication practice, with no sign-in needed. The font installation package is free after registration and sign-in with a separate public download account. Before using the typeface, compare its samples with the letterforms in your child’s textbook.
